Confirmed: Britney Spears heading to Las Vegas

Much like a dead-eyed Madame Tussaud’s figure — or, you know, a spangly Cirque du Soleil spectacular — Britney Spears will be a Sin City attraction by the end of 2013, the Las Vegas Sun now reports, adding one more chapter to the ongoing saga of her plans for a residency, a collection of rumours that have circulated since Spears’s sudden ouster from The X Factor.

Or maybe longer. Since her quickie wedding of yore, Vegas and Brit-Brit have gone together like Cheetos and double-mocha ice frapps, for better or for worse or for worst (the 2007 VMAs.)

But the twist today is that the Vegas giant who’s negotiating with Team Britney previously denied such a deal was in progress. Caesar’s Entertainment, which runs Vegas venues the Colosseum, Bally’s, Harrah’s, Planet Hollywood, Rio, Flamingo and Paris, told the Vegas Sun that they are in talks to bring Spears in as a headliner.

“We can now confirm the company is actively engaged in discussions with Britney Spears’ representatives regarding a potential headlining residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino,” a rep told the paper. “No further statement can be made at this time.”

Just days ago, a spokesperson for Caesars told Buzzfeed that though they are “always interested in having artists with the calibre of Britney Spears,” their schedule was completely booked. And, sure enough, SPIN notes that their premiere venue, the Colosseum, is the contracted playground of Celine Dion, Elton John and Shania Twain through 2014. They also have a deal with Rod Stewart that runs out in August. But Planet Hollywood? As the Sun reports, it seems that stage could be Britney’s b*tch.

However, nothing will be happening until after Spears has successfully put out that new album of hers, a collection her team has been teasing for months. And a deal with Caesars hasn’t officially been signed. Spears could be patting her weave someplace different entirely. At least one more Las Vegas casino wants the pop star. “Any deal for Vegas is not yet signed and is still subject to negotiations,” her manager, Larry Rudolph, told Extra earlier this week. “But I feel strongly we are very close and it will happen.”

Spears’s de factor publicist, her dog Hannah, lent some credence to the Vegas rumours days ago, when “she” Tweeted about hitting the casinos.

Any follow-up with Spears’s publicist is not advised as it will only result in unintelligible barks or, at best, a paw mashed into an iPhone keyboard.
