Like many exceptional athletes, most professional hockey players get special treatment from an early age. By the time they’re drafted they’ve been hearing they’re God’s gift to the world almost as long as they’ve been a big shooter.
And with dozens of self-described “puck bunnies” cropping up at every bar, it would be hard for even a Tibetan monk to keep his libido in – pardon the pun – check.
To call some of these guys ‘playboys’ would be an understatement.
But Erin Andrews’ tweet-announcement (pictured below) over the holidays of her new relationship with Jarret Stoll, centreman for the Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings, might have finally made one hockey title official:
“Biggest ‘player’ In The NHL.”
It’s a win Stoll seems ready to walk away with as easily as…well, as some of the puck bunnies.
Andrews’ response to the picture seems to confirm being out of work is no impediment to getting the girl.
@rklub haha..yes he is! Happy New Year

In case you’ve forgotten, Stoll spent some time canoodling with Paulina Gretzky (pictured below) in her hot tub as recently as last summer.
And he’s also been engaged to Rachel Hunter, you know, Rod Stewart’s Rachel Hunter (pictured below)? Given her celeb-hopping, actually, Hunter might deserve a title of her own.
But just because Stoll’s been getting some serious play this year, that doesn’t mean there aren’t puckloads of other players, past and present, that aren’t serious contenders for the title-beltless.
Take Sean Avery, who has been linked with both supermodel Hilary Rhoda (pictured below) and Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert.
Two starlets? That’s hardly noteworthy, you say. And maybe you’d be right, if it weren’t for his post-breakup analysis of Cuthbert’s new relationship with then-Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf.
“I’m just going to say one thing. I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada,” Avery said to a pack of reporters in Calgary. “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.”
Apparently under all that armour-like gear beats the heart of pure chivalry.
And let’s not forget Mike Comrie, whose ability to speed through off-ice relationships towers over his ability to put pucks into the net.
Back in February, 2010, Comrie proposed to American actress and singer Hilary Duff, who promptly accepted his proposal of marriage, then just as promptly proceeded to show him her gratitude.
Although these days it’s Paulina Gretzky whose been linked to just about everyone in the NHL, her famous father was no slouch back in his day, either. In fact, Wayne might be considered to be the first, true playboy of the NHL.
While serving as a celebrity judge on Dance Fever, Gretzky met his future wife, American actress Janet Jones (pictured below).
And as long as we’re dredging up the past, let’s talk about Russian hockey sensation Sergei Fedorov, who managed to woo tennis player-turned-model Anna Kournikova (pictured below), back in the late ’90s.
Of course to be fair, in that instance, the player might not have been the true “player.” After Kournikova’s representatives denied she ever married #91, she moved on to Fedorov’s Russian teammate, Pavel Bure, followed by pop star Enrique Iglesias.
The list goes on. Though Alexandre Daigle is generally considered to be the biggest NHL bust ever, he did date Pamela Anderson (pictured below), the ultimate bunny, for a period of time.
And Mark Messier managed to hook up with both Madonna and super model Tyra Banks (pictured below).
Mike Fisher married pop-country darling Carrie Underwood.
Yes, the list of the women these puck-chasers catch is very long indeed.
Which of course begs the question of why I didn’t spend more time practicing my slapshot?
